Editing Session #4

Date: 25/11/2016

In this editing session, we added in our new shots and went back through old footage to find some shots that work well with our music video so far. This included adding in our new footage from Sutton Park, as well as some of the landscape shots from London, and other scenery shots such as of the trees. We also added in more of the reverse effects, such as on the carousel, and included a shot of the London streets with high speed, so that it showed the business of the London streets. We felt that this was a very successful editing session, as we got quite a large chunk of editing done and managed to fill some of the gaps in our music video. However, one issue that we encountered is that some of the shots that we filmed had Ciara lipsyncing along to lyrics that we already had shots of, and so we found that in editing some footage tended to overlap and we had to delete some. We therefore may re-film similar shots, but with Ciara lipsyncing a different lyric in the song.

Filming Session #9

Date: 24/11/2016
Location: Sutton Park
Equipment: Camera, Tripod, Fig Rig

For this session, we filmed some of the smaller shots needed for our music video, such as more close up shots of Ciara lipsyncing and a 360 shot of her standing in the park. We made sure to also film some shots which were more tightly framed, as this was mentioned on our feedback, as well as test out different angles for our shots. Lastly, we re-filmed the extreme close up of Ciara's mouth when she is lipsyncing, as we wanted to possibly use this shot instead of the old one due to the yellowish lighting in the old shot. This session went well, as it allowed us to gather more shots to help fill up the gaps we currently have in our music video, and incorporated different shot types for our video. However, one issue we had is that the 360 shot is quite shaky, but we will fix this by either re-filming or editing in post-production.

Music Video - First Draft

Editing Session #3

Date: 21/11/16

In our third editing session, we focused mainly on adding in our newest footage, in order to give us more of an idea as to what our music video will look like. This involved our footage from the park, such as the shot in which the artist and her boyfriend are laying on the grass together. However, once we had added in our new footage, we also began to add effects to some of the existing editing. One example is the close up shot of Ciara's shoes as she is walking, in which we had the footage play and then reverse slightly. We also did a similar shot with the footage of the artist and her boyfriend bowling. These effects worked to make the music video more interesting and unique to watch, and we were therefore very pleased with it. However, one issue that we encountered was simply that we still need to recover some of the footage we lost in London, so we will need to re-film for this.

Filming Session #8

Date: 13/11/16
Location: Sutton Park
Equipment: Camera, Tripod

During this filming session we visited Sutton Park, where we re-filmed the park shots that we had lost in London. This included the wide shot of Luca lip syncing in the foreground, whilst Ciara is in the background, and their positions then switching. We also filmed shots of both Luca and Ciara individually, some of which they were lip syncing and others in which they were not. This filming session was successful in letting us re-film the park shots, although one issue is that we had originally planned to film more than just the park shots, but the weather meant that we did not have enough time as it got dark very quickly. We will therefore have to film another day, but we will ensure that we get the shots we missed done.

Filming Session #7

Date: 13/11/16
Location: Central London
Equipment: Camera, Fig Rig, Tripod

In this session we re-visited central London to finish filming the rest of our shots in the park, arcade and bowling alley. Whilst this session went well and we managed to film everything, the main issue is that our SD card was corrupted and as a result we have lost all of our footage of this session. This meant we had to film more shots on Ciara's iPhone, but if we are unable to recover the footage we will still need to re-film.

Filming Session #6

Location: Drama Room
Date: 11/11/16
Equipment: Tripod, LED light, Camera

For this filming session we filmed in the drama room. We once again used a LED light to create a silhouette shot as Ciara lip syncs, as the last time we filmed this scene the lighting was not bright enough and so her silhouette was not pronounced enough. For this reason, we used a brighter light this time and positioned it to highlight her much better. We are pleased with how this turned out, but one issue that we encountered was that we had no internet to play the song, and so we were unable to let Ciara lip sync along to it. This means that we are now having issues identifying what Ciara is lipsyncing in the shot, as no music is playing. We will therefore fix this by watching it more to try and identify it, and if we can't we'll re-shoot it.

Filming Session #5

Location: Sutton
Date: 4/11/16
Equipment: Camera, Tripod

For this filming session in Sutton we recorded some shots in the park. This included shots of the swings with no one on them and a shot of Ciara sitting on one alone. We also filmed some POV shots, in order to make the audience feel as though they are seeing everything through the artist's perspective. We felt that overall these shots went well, and thought there are some shots we may not use due to being blurry, the majority of shots will be used in the music video. However, one issue that we had with this filming session was that, as we were filming in the park, it soon got busy with children and so we had to film some shots in a rush. It has, however, been easily resolved as the shots that we did get were shots that we were pleased with.

Editing Session #2

Date: 16/11/16

For this editing session, we began to properly piece together our music video. Although a large amount of our footage from London was lost due to a corrupt SD card, we have used the footage that we do have until we get to film again. This session was beneficial as not only do we have a fair amount of our lip sync shots aligned with the song, but we have also began to add in shots that piece together the narrative, such as shots of the artist and her boyfriend together 'vlogging' and laughing. However, one issue we encountered is that, as we were editing we found that a lot more footage had been corrupted than we originally thought, and so we therefore had to alter our plans during editing as to what we would focus on. We have also had to arrange for times in which we can re-film the footage that we lost, particularly arranging to go back up to London.

Editing Session #1

Date: 9/11/16

For our first editing session, we mainly focused on looking through our clips and choosing the best shots from each scene. We then aligned these in Adobe Premiere Pro, so that the lyrics that Ciara is lipsyncing in the shot were in sync with the actual song. This was useful as it gave us a rough outline of where we have footage of Ciara lipsyncing, and where we have blank space that we can fill with shots such as establishing shots of the location or shots which add to the narrative. The main shots of Ciara lipsyncing that we added to our project were shots such as her in the bath, and her standing in front of the wave projector. One issue that we had with this editing session was that, as we did not have enough footage at that point, it was difficult to work out whether all of the lip sync shots would fit in well with the rest of the music video. However, this is an issue that will be solved once we film more footage (which we are already planning to do) and then continue editing.

Filming Session #3 & #4

Location: Sutton
Date: 28/10/16
Equipment: Camera, Tripod

For our third filming session we stayed at school, as we needed to use the drama room to film some lip syncing shots with the spotlight. Whilst we were pleased with our camera work for these shots, one issue that we encountered was that the spotlight was not bright enough to create a strong silhouette of our artist. We therefore may have to re-shoot these shots with a brighter light, or position it differently when filming.

For our fourth filming session we were once again filming at Ciara's house, where we filmed some mirror shots. In these
, the artist was lip syncing into the mirror whilst photos of her with her boyfriend and other friends decorate the frame of the mirror. We did this in order to make it look as though she was remembering these memories. We also filmed some close up shots of the artist's mouth as she lip syncs to the song. These shots are turned out successfully, and do not need to be re-filmed. However, one issue that we did have is that it was raining, and so we had to reschedule our filming of the park shots for a different day.

Filming Session #2

Location: Ciara's House
Date: 18/10/16
Equipment: Camera, Tripod

For our second filming session, we had to film at Ciara's house. This is because we were shooting some shots of her lip syncing whilst in the bath. We wanted her to be wearing plain white clothes, and have a pink bathbomb and flowers in the water, as these types of visuals are often common in the indie genre. We also felt that having a pastel tone to the video would be fitting for the song. For the most part our filming went well, although one issue that we did encounter was that the bathroom was quite cramped, and it was therefore difficult to position the tripod in the way we wanted. However, as there was no way to fix this, we managed to work around it and we were pleased with how the shots turned out regardless. We were also happy with the shots as we used several different shot types, such as high angle shots and close ups.

Filming Session #1

Location: Central London
Date: 14/10/16
Equipment: Camera

For our first filming session, we went to central London to film shots of Ciara and Luca together, enjoying themselves on a trip to the London Eye and Big Ben. As we were originally planning to film in the aquarium, but this was closed, we did not have a tripod with us when filming. This meant that a large amount of our shots were quite shaky, and whilst some of our shots were intended to be handheld shots and were meant to be fairly shaky, some of them (such as the establishing shots of London landmarks) would be better fitting if we use a tripod. For this reason, we will most likely plan to revisit London and re-shoot some of our scenes in London. This will most likely include establishing shots, and the shot of Ciara walking away into the crowd on the bridge. However, the shots that we did get from this session still have some strengths, such as the fact that they were well-lit. We also liked that in the establishing shots of London, without any characters in them, the sky was a nice colour, as it was filmed during the golden hour and therefore had pink-yellow tones in it. We felt that this was quite fitting for the calming tone of the song, and added to the melancholic feel of the music video as it made the sky look less harsh because of the fact that the sky was not bright blue but instead had a softer blend of colours. In addition to this, as the shot was taken whilst pointed towards landscapes such as Big Ben and the bridge, it makes the location more identifiable to the audience as well as making the shot more interesting. For these reasons, we were happy with the outcome of this shot.
